Todays Cheltenham Betting News:

All eyes are on the Ditcheat stable at the moment as Kauto Star’s D-Day approaches. The dual Gold Cup winner suffered a bad fall in training recently putting his participation at the Festival in doubt, but he has been reported to be improving and a decision is expected to be made on Saturday regarding his involvement at Prestbury Park.

Betting odds on Paul Nicholls’ star had drifted following the news but have steadied at around the 4/1 mark, leaving Long Run as the clear favourite at 6/4. Punters’ interest in Grands Crus and Burton Port has also strengthened leading to both horses shortening in the betting.

The Festival is finally upon us and what a fantastic week of sporting action and drama lies in wait. Four short-priced favourites defend their crowns with Hurricane Fly going for the Champion Hurdle, Sizing Europe aiming to retain the Champion Chase, Long Run looking for back-to-back Gold Cup success and Big Buck’s aiming for an unprecedented fourth consecutive World Hurdle.

Other odds-on favourites in the Cheltenham betting include Sprinter Sacre who is looking to maintain his unbeaten run over fences by winning the Arkle and Quevega aims for a third successive Cheltenham triumph in the David Nicholson Mares’ hurdle.

Despite the short priced favourites in many races nothing can be certain. This is, after all, the Cheltenham Festival and consequently the most competitive week in the National Hunt horse racing betting calendar. Kauto Star will be heavily backed to regain the Gold Cup, Binocular will likely prove popular in the Champion Hurdle betting and Big Zeb will be a real contender in the Champion Chase betting if rediscovering his best form.

Cheltenham Free Bets

New Cheltenham free bets are being made available on a daily basis in the lead up to the Festival. Ladbrokes have enhanced their standard offer to bring punters and improved £75 Cheltenham Free bet, while Sportingbet now offer a £50 risk-free opening bet to new online customers. More free bet offers are certain to emerge in the coming days.

Cheltenham Betting News

The main Cheltenham betting news in the lead up to the Festival has been the fitness of Kauto Star. A couple of weeks prior to the Gold Cup trainer Paul Nicholls reported that the two-time champion had suffered a bad fall in training and was rated as 50-50 for the Blue Riband race. Connections have appeared to be increasingly positive in the days since the announcement, but a decision on whether the superstar will run at Prestbury Park has yet to be made.

Ante-post bettors suffered another blow when news emerged that Peddlers Cross would not take on Sprinter Sacre in the Arkle. The Donald McCain trained horse was second favourite for the opening day’s race, but will now go for the Jewson Novices’ Hurdle instead.
